My AMVs - a reflection, part 2
Apr. 10th, 2023 05:10 pmThis entry was too long to post all in one go so here's part 2
Title: Monody
Anime: Genius Party beyond - Gala
Song & Artist: Monody - The Fat Rat
Date created: 14/02/2016
We now reach what I feel is the start of my current more mature editing arc. Before I made "Monody" the last video I finished and released was in 2011. I don't consider the time between to be a true hiatus as I was still editing somewhat during these four years, however I never finished/released anything (and in one tragic case I lost a project file of a video I'd been working on for quite a while).
Between 2011 and 2016 I went through a lot of life stuff and things were finally really good for me when I suddenly felt like making "Monody" one day. I was like "fuck it, I haven't really done this in a while, lets just make a complete AMV again".
I'd been enjoying this song and I had been racking my brain to think of an anime to use and I remembered I had Genius Party and thought Gala would fit excellently. It took me only around four hours to make this video and to date it is still one of my favourites. The only part I don't like is the small section where there is some singing, I kind of lost my rhythm there, I feel I sync much better in this video when there's only instrumentals.
Made using Kdenlive on a home brew PC running Ubuntu (this currently my final form)
Title: Superbeast - Remaster
Anime: Princess Mononoke
Song & Artist: Superbeast - Rob Zombie
Date created: 01/07/2017
This is a remaster of a much older AMV I love.
Around this time I’d started getting into reddit as a way of finding new AMV’s to watch. I posted about this particular AMV as it was one from my childhood I loved but I could only find a partial upload of it on vimeo, and nowhere else. A reddit user contacted me a couple months after my initial post and sent me a download link to a copy of the original video they still had. I was eternally grateful and decided to make a remastered copy for myself and anyone else who loves this video.
I did upload this to YouTube, but it got blocked and removed.
In 2019 I finally plucked up the courage to ask about this video in the forums on amv.org. The video does not have an entry on that site and no obvious creator - at this point I wanted to archive it on amv.org, and I wanted to know who to attribute it to. I did get a response on the thread linking it up to an old matching contest entry by “Tophat Monkey Productions”, who, drumroll… Turns out to be SSGWNBTD, I swear this dude made half my childhood at this point. SSGWNBTD has been semi-active fairly recently so I decided not to archive the video since he does have his own account (even though this video and others of his are not listed).
Interestingly, I am not the only person to make a remaster of a SSGWNBTD video and post about it on reddit.
Title: The Pretender
Anime: Drifters
Song & Artist: The Pretender - Infected Mushroom
Date created: 28/07/2017
I maintain that this was a good idea but my execution was a bit lacking. Honestly the only reason why I made this was because I watched Drifters and was like "man this dude really likes beheading people", therefore I decided I wanted to edit a beheading montage - that part of the video ended up being the only good bit, the rest feels like filler/fluff. I guess that's what happens when you try editing a 6+ minute long AMV without a plan other than "heads are gonna get chopped off".
The video ended up getting blocked on YouTube and honestly I'm not that sad about it.
Title: Dirty Paws
Anime: Princess Mononoke
Song & Artist: Dirty Paws - Of Monsters and Men
Date created: 16/09/2017
I fell in love with this song and instantly thought it would be perfect with Princess Mononoke. I guess several people agreed with me as to date it's my most popular video on YouTube.
I tried to capture the magical feeling of the anime with this, for the most part I think I succeeded. There are a couple moments which are a bit meh but overall I still really enjoy this video.
Title: Hocus Pocus
Anime: Ayakashi, Mononoke
Song & Artist: Hocus Pocus - Marnik
Date created: 21/10/2017
One of the things I do before I make any AMV's is I'll go and search to see if the particular anime/song combo I have in mind has been created before. Or even if there are AMV's out there using other anime with the song that I enjoy watching. If I find any, then I feel there's no point in me making mine, unless I feel they're completely different from what I want to do with it.
When I was doing this search for my video "The Ballad of Ryuko Matoi" I found an AMV to the song Hocus Pocus by Marnik (because there's more than one song titled "Hocus Pocus" it seems), and of course I fell in love with it and wanted to edit something with it myself. I decided Mononoke would fit quite nicely. I used the Bakeneko arc from Ayakashi as well as the full Mononoke anime. Annoyingly, Ayakashi is in 4:3 so I had to zoom in on the footage and it's noticeably worse quality. Double annoyingly the portion of the video I made with the Bakeneko arc is the best part of this video in my opinion. Not that I dislike the rest, but the rest just never achieves the same flow.
Title: 17
Anime: Adolescence of Utena
Song & Artist: 17 - MK
Date created: 21/01/2018
I kept hearing this song on the radio at the time and I thought it would be fun to edit with. While trying to think of an anime the one my mind kept coming back to was Utena - despite not having watched any of it yet. I dutifully acquired the Utena movie, watched it, and then made this AMV in around four hours. I tried to keep the editing in this very simple and graceful. This is one of my videos that I really enjoy watching over and over again.
Title: The Ballad of Ryuko Matoi
Anime: Kill La Kill
Song & Artist: Hocus Pocus - Focus
Date created: 19/10/2018
This was inspired by a Reddit comment - someone mentioned this song would make for a good AMV and I was like "yes, I agree, I'mma go do that". I chose Kill La Kill because I felt the ridiculous visuals matched the energy of the song.
In learning from my poorly planned 6+ minute Drifters AMV, I went into making "The Ballad of Ryuko Matoi" with a highly intricate plan.
First I divided the song into 24 roughly equal in length sections to match the amount of episodes in Kill La Kill.
Then I went through each episode and clipped the moments that I thought defined each episode the most.
Then I pieced the project together linearly from the first episode to the last, fitting these moments in as best I could into the allocated chunks of music.
It honestly worked out a lot better than I hoped. The types of episodes lined up with the music wonderfully, IE; some silly episodes happened during the yodelling parts etc.
So yeah, if you want to watch an abridged version of Kill La Kill, this is your AMV!
Title: Kineticgatari
Anime: Katanagatari
Song & Artist: Kinetic - The Crystal Method
Date created: 22/11/2018
I really liked this song and wanted to edit with it. I'd also recently finished watching Katanagatari which happened to have quite a bit of movement in it, so I thought they'd match pretty well.
My favourite part of this video is the brief section with Sabi Hakuhei on the bridge. I really enjoy how the sync turned out there.
Title: We’re All Lost in Space
Anime: Cowboy Bebop
Song & Artist: Lost in Space - Infected Mushroom
Date created: 02/04/2019
This video had the potential to be something great. Sadly I feel my vision for it was too loose and I didn't quite achieve what I wanted with it. It's not a bad video, there are some moments of brilliance, but overall it falls short of the mark. I did really enjoy editing with a song in a language other than English though.
Title: Signs
Anime: Please Save My Earth
Song & Artist: Signs - Bloc Party
Date created: 22/04/2019
This video is very dear to my heart. I had the idea for this combo around the same time I made "Flux" but I didn't make "Signs" until 2019 as I felt my editing prowess at the time simply wasn't good enough to do this combination justice.
It's an interesting video because the entire thing is literal lyric sync, however I feel I get away with it because the lyrics are about intangible things. Also I'm unsure how well this comes across to people unfamiliar with the anime.
Spoilers for PSME
The lyrics for the song are about someone lamenting the loss of their lover, going through their grief of losing them, and things in life that keep reminding them of this person when they were alive/the thought that they could live on/come back.
Very briefly - PSME is about a group of alien people who went through hardships, died, and were reincarnated on earth and are slowly regaining their memories of their past lives.
I map the lyrics of the song very literally onto the story of the two main leads in PSME who were lovers in that previous life. It works especially well as the male lead regains his memories first and spends quite a bit of the anime convinced that the female lead is indeed his dead lover, seeing all sorts of "signs" as to why she is etc.
This description doesn't really fully cover the amount of plot points and subtle comparisons I put in throughout the entire video, but hopefully it gives some context for people unfamiliar with the source.
Title: Where We Go
Anime: Place Promised in Our Early Days
Song & Artist: Where We Go - P!nk
Date created: 09/05/2019
I enjoyed this song so I wanted to make an AMV. I got the idea to use Place Promised because of the line "takes our bodies not our souls". Unfortunately I was kind of hampered by the lack of good footage in this movie. Despite the way it looks, Place Promised is super uninteresting. Also my editing here is overall very meh.
Title: Secrets
Anime: Haibane Renmei
Song & Artist: Secrets - P!nk
Date created: 18/01/2020
I was on a bit of a Pink binge at this point in time, and this was my favourite off of her latest album so I really wanted to edit with it. Eventually I settled on using Haibane Renmei as I felt the lyrics suited the dual stories of both Rakka and Reki. At the time I finished it I felt it was really awkward and I didn't like it very much. These days I really enjoy watching it and I definitely put far more work into it than I seem to remember!
Title: Blinding Lights
Anime: Ai no Kusabi
Song & Artist: Blinding Lights - The Weeknd
Date created: 05/02/2020
It's not surprising that I made an AMV with Blinding Lights. The song was absolutely everywhere at the time, you couldn't get away from it. What is surprising, is I was one of the first people to edit with it (or at least, gain moderate popularity with an AMV of it).
I mulled over what anime to use for a while, but my brain kept coming back to Ai No Kusabi despite how hard I tried to think of something else. It was an anime I'd watched many years prior when I was in my "must consume all of the gay media" stage of life. I wasn't sure I could pull off editing with the anime while keeping things fairly PG, somehow I managed though (a couple parts are a little dicey, but if you'd never seen the anime, you wouldn't know).
There was a more recent release of Ai No Kusabi, but I didn't like the art style, so I stuck with the original early 90's one. This version fit the aesthetic of the song better anyway.
There is one scene in this that I reversed and one scene that I sped up slightly. All the other editing is hard cuts and fades.
Title: Baccano in the 90's
Anime: Baccano
Song & Artist: Push the Feeling On - NightCrawlers
Date created: 21/04/2020
This is another video where I'd had the idea for a while but didn't get around to making it for ages. I finally dredged up the motivation and made this over a weekend. It turned out alright, the pace of the song I feel fits Baccano very well, though it does feel a bit awkward in some places.
Title: XO
Anime: Diebuster
Song & Artist: XO - Lupe Fiasco ft Troi Irons
Date created: 08/07/2020
I love, love, love this song. I spent a good couple of years trying to think of an anime that would suit it and finally my brain landed on Diebuster and it was the perfect match.
I spent a very long time working on this AMV. In my YouTube description for "Secrets" I allude to working on a more complicated project - that is this video.
"XO" was definitely a labour of love. I've watched many awesome hyped up Diebuster action AMV's in my time and I wanted to make something that had some chance of standing shoulder to shoulder with those. There was much fiddling over the minutiae of frame placement and speed in order to ensure several moments were synced correctly. By the time I was finished with it I was so fed up with trying to get everything exactly perfect that I felt the whole thing was a terrible mess and not good at all. It's only really been within the last year or so that I've been able to watch this video without judgement and I realise it’s actually quite good, and that I am proud of it.
Title: Black room Girl
Anime: Serial Experiments Lain
Song & Artist: Black Room Boy - Above and Beyond
Date created: 17/09/2020
"Black room Girl" is what I consider to be the first personal AMV I ever made. Up until this point everything I edited I did because I enjoyed the song and wanted to create a visualisation for it, or I was a fan of the anime and wanted to create something for it/the characters in it.
All AMV's are personal to some degree, I don't believe that you can create anything without leaving little pieces of yourself here and there. In this context when I say "personal AMV" I mean the content within was directly influenced by something specific in my life and I made it for the purpose of making sense of that thing/my emotions surrounding it.
In late 2019 I started having trouble with my mental health to the point where it was affecting my life in ways it never had before and I really didn't know how to cope with that. By mid 2020 I'd reached what was probably my lowest point and I'd started making this AMV as a way to channel some of my negative feelings.
I've always felt a kinship with Lain as a character (I suspect many people do in some ways) and this video is as much a character profile for her as it was also for myself.
Title: Happy Feet
Anime: Various
Song & Artist: Happy Feet - Kermit the Frog
Date created: 16/10/2020
We now reach the first of my Project Org Editor 2020 videos. I entered POE on a whim, and I’m very glad I did as it led me into many other AMV spaces over the past few years.
I’m not going to talk about these videos as there’s not much to say - my descriptions from the time were perfectly adequate.
Title: Even Titans Need Somebody
Anime: Attack on Titan
Song & Artist: Everybody needs somebody to love - The Blues Brothers
Date created: 22/10/2020

Title: I’m Still Standing
Anime: Excel Saga
Song & Artist: I’m Still Standing - Taron Egerton
Date created: 30/11/2020
This was the first ever IC I participated in, it was hosted by Bentovid (formally AMV Sashimi) and was a random IC where we got assigned songs from a pool. I made this in two hours.
Title: Death Angel
Anime: Trigun
Song & Artist: 告æ»å¤©ä½¿ - Norihiro Tsuru
Date created: 06/12/2020
A spiritual successor to "How I Wish for Soothing Rain".
This song conjured up images of Trigun in my head when I first heard it so I decided to make something with them. I focused mainly on some of the calmer dramatic moments in the series. I did a fair bit of loose/awkward sync in this, but I think overall it turned out to have an interesting rhythm. I'm still not quite sure the end fits with the rest though.
Title: Reset the System
Anime: Karas
Song & Artist: The Wall (Buunshin remix) - ABIS & Signal
Date created: 07/03/2021
I made this AMV specially for the 2021 RICE contest held by Bentovid (formally AMV Sashimi). This was inspired by an IC AMV that the contest coordinator Vars (SQ) had made a few months prior also using Karas. I happened to have Karas as I was planning on using it for a different project, but Vars' video made me want some flashy Karas action sooner rather than later so I figured I'd make something and submit it to his contest.
I'd had this song on the back burner as something I'd want to edit with at some point, and I was finally able to use it as it's perfect for Karas.
I had previously cut songs at either the beginning or the end so that they'd be shorter, but this was my first time cutting chunks out from the middle of the song and successfully stitching it back together to form something cohesive. I was quite proud of that!
Title: Mistical Reflections
Anime: Mononoke
Song & Artist: Castle in the Mist - ICO OST
Date created: 07/03/2021
I made this AMV specially for the 2021 RICE contest held by Bentovid (formally AMV Sashimi).
The RICE contest always has a theme category and this year it was "mystic mystique", where we could make an AMV that was mystical in nature/focused on a character with grey/white hair. I tried to combine both those things and made an AMV with Mononoke focusing on the Medicine Seller. I tried to focus on the mystical vibes of the show rather than anything else.
I spent a very long time trying to find the perfect music for the type of video I wanted to make. I eventually found this song by starting with "Journey of the Sorcerer" and then going down a YouTube recommendation rabbit hole.
Title: The stuff dreams are made of
Anime: Spirited Away
Song & Artist: Second Skin - Scooter
Date created: 28/03/2021
This is not exactly a personal video but it does represent a particular moment in time for me.
I made this during my final week at a job I'd been in for almost 6 years. This job had started causing me significant mental health issues to the point where I felt I had to quit and was unable to work for a few months afterwards. I was not in a good headspace at the time, but I was also so darn relieved to have that particular source of stress removed. This video is somewhat a reflection of that relief.
Ultimately the video itself is very simple, and that's deliberate - my brain couldn't cope with anything complicated at this point in time, so the entire video is nothing but hard cuts, and it's mainly a linear re-telling of Spirited away focusing on how magical and freeing some of it is.
I'd wanted to edit with this song for a very long time. Honestly I kind of want to edit with all the songs from the Scooter album "Under the Radar and Over the Top", but "Second Skin" was top of the list. I finally got the idea to use Spirited Away while I was listening to music on a walk and this song came on.
Title: Mobius Mood
Anime: Silent Mobius
Song & Artist: Why - Joe Satriani
Date created: 04/04/2021
IC made for a Bentovid (formally AMV Sashimi) "secret IC" and "Iron remix" challenge. I made this in two hours - chose this combo of anime/music fairly randomly - I picked the first song that came up on shuffle from files on my computer and I picked an anime I had that I hadn't edited with yet.
Title: Visitor
Anime: Tokyo Babylon
Song & Artist: Visitor - Of Monsters and Men
Date created: 27/04/2021
My YouTube comments about this video tell pretty much the whole story. I was feeling melancholy, and wanted to edit something that matched my mood. I was really enjoying this song around that time and I felt Tokyo Babylon would suit it quite well. The editing here is very simple, and in some parts very loose, this is due to me wanting to simply make something and not really wanting a tightly controlled result.
Title: Rhythm & Blue
Anime: Noiseman Sound Insect
Song & Artist: Black & Blue - Ilan Bluestone & Andrew Bayer
Date created: 30/04/2021
I made this because I really liked the song, and I thought Noiseman Sound Insect would be fun to edit with. This is probably one of my favourite videos that I made in 2021, simply because I made it for fun, therefore, I find it enjoyable to watch.
Noiseman Sound Insect is a short film, so this AMV is pretty much the whole movie.
I went hard on the jump cuts in this.
Title: Somewhere I Belong
Anime: Haibane Renmei
Song & Artist: Somewhere I Belong - Linkin Park
Date created: 07/05/2021
Another video made for a Bentovid (formally AMV Sashimi) IC event. This time the theme was "throwback" so we were given random nostalgia songs. I got Somewhere I Belong, so I thought it would be apt to put it to some Haibane angst. This was made in around two hours.
Title: Destruction
Anime: The End of Evangelion
Song & Artist: Destroy Everything You Touch - Ladytron
Date created: 24/05/2021
This was absolutely a shitpost idea that ended up becoming a real AMV. I initially thought the lyrics could combine with Evangelion in a silly way because of all the Rei melting people scenes, etc. Of course it then started working in a more existential way, and then BAM! Suddenly I had a genuine AMV on my hands.
Title: Running Up That Hill
Anime: Please Save My Earth
Song & Artist: Running Up That Hill - Placebo
Date created: 31/05/2021
My original video comments are adequate.
Title: Forever
Anime: Sk8
Song & Artist: Frozen Ground - Ilan Bluestone feat. Giuseppe De Luca
Date created: 29/06/2021
My original video comments are adequate.
Title: The stuff (other) dreams are made of
Anime: Aoi Bungaku
Song & Artist: Second Skin - The Chameleons
Date created: 25/07/2021
Earlier in 2021 I made a Spirited Away AMV using the Scooter version of this song. Up until that point I'd had no idea that the Scooter version was a cover. While making that AMV I came across the original version of the song which was by an old British band called The Chameleons who were mostly active back in the 80's. I immediately fell in love with the original song (and a few other songs by them) and felt I would want to edit with it as well some day. Well that opportunity came a lot sooner than I expected. Also earlier in 2021 I came across an AMV which featured the anime Aoi Bungaku. I was intrigued and looked it up and it sounded like something I'd enjoy watching so I quickly acquired it. I ended up only watching the first two episodes before it started making me feel kinda icky so I stopped. Fast forward a couple months, and I'd been listening to The Chameleons version of "Second Skin" almost non stop - I'd even placed the track into an editing project file and I'd listen to it there and try and drum up some kind of inspiration to try and edit with it. I was initially thinking I'd make something similar in tone to my Spirited Away AMV, something "magical" in nature but probably more subdued (I toyed with the idea of using Night on the Galactic Railroad for example). However - I was not in the greatest of head spaces during this period of time, being still unemployed at my own discretion due to ill mental health. Because of my mentality and how much was listening to the song - I came to the realisation that many of the lyrics in "Second Skin" could be interpreted in a much darker way than I had previously assumed, and so "Second Skin" suddenly turned from something akin to a magical journey into a mirror for my depressive mood. Aoi Bungaku had the perfect imagery for this kind of sentiment so I finally started editing.
As stated in the YouTube description, I made these in chaotic bursts. Not very many of them either, despite being almost 7 minutes in length I probably only spent around 5 proper editing sessions on this over the space of a couple weeks. It was an interesting time. I had not fully watched the anime, and yet somehow I knew exactly how I wanted each stage of this video to be - or it was more the video fell into place naturally. I made the end portion of the video first, and then I filled in random chunks throughout until I was done. Because of the haphazard way I put it together, the pace of the video is off kilter and slightly awkward, honestly I feel that works in its favour though, it feeds into the slightly disturbing nature of it all. The only rule I had while editing was I tried to balance footage throughout the different short stories in the anime - I wanted them to all be as equally represented as possible (some of them didn't have much good footage though), and I also didn't want to linger on one particular story for too long before showing another, this is why the video seems to intertwine these stories so well. I also did a few artsy editing things in this that I don't often do, mainly as a way of showing parallels/drawing attention to certain elements.
From comments I've received I understand that this ended up being a fairly good representation of the Anime and the characters within. That was not my intention when making this, but honestly I'm really glad that people are able to enjoy this video for that reason, rather than it simply being a window into my declining mental health that I feared it might be. Honestly I almost didn't release this video because I was worried some things in it were far too blatant.
My Spirited Away AMV was titled "The stuff dreams are made of", and I decided to title this video "The stuff (other) dreams are made of", as it ended up being so dissimilar in tone to my Spirited Away AMV, and yet in some ways, it was the other side of the same coin.
Title: The Great Competition of 4999
Anime: Gunbuster
Song & Artist: The Walk Home - Hans Zimmer
Date created: 30/07/2021

Title: Goose
Anime: Redline
Song & Artist: She's My Man (Goose remix) - Scissor Sisters
Date created: 30/07/2021
My original video comments are adequate.
Title: Bullet Resonance
Anime: Bananafish
Song & Artist: Trenches - Saysh

Title: Summer 2013
Anime: Various
Song & Artist: Summertime Sadness (Cedric Gervais remix) - Lana Del Ray
Date created: 26/08/2021
It's possibly quite obvious, but I mostly make AMV's first and foremost for myself. I enjoy the process of putting them together and quite often I have a very strong desire to see the result. If other people also enjoy what I create, well that's just a bonus.
"Summer 2013" is probably the ultimate example of that - I made it for myself as a way to retroactively engage with some of the things I missed out on during the year 2013. To date, 2013 was one of the worst years of my life, and a lot of ordinary life/social things passed me by which still to this day I am discovering for the first time (for example, like popular songs which were released in 2013 which I'd never heard before).
Lana Del Ray's "Summertime Sadness" was a song from 2013 which I really enjoy and I had the idea to make a sort of montage tribute to "the year I lost" using anime which were also released in 2013. I honed in on anime which were released specifically in Summer as a nod towards the song.
I initially started making this over a full year before I finished it. I got maybe a quarter of the way through before I thought it was stupid and dropped it for a while. It wasn't until I watched a particular AMV of Vivafringe's that I was inspired to go back and finish this.
The video itself is fairy benign. I simply found clips that I feel best suited the song, so on the surface it's a fairly typical Summer/Nostalgia/Vibe AMV.
Quite honestly I probably never should have released this. I naively thought "what's the harm? No one is going to know anything about this unless you tell them so it's just going to be an unremarkable AMV that no one else will think twice about." Well, despite this, or quite possibly because of this, there was harm. In 2022 the video was picked up by an AMV contest where it was included with hundreds of other AMV's that were supposedly played en masse to con goers over a weekend. I am very uncomfortable that this happened, although I'm aware it's on me for making the video available online in the first place. Obviously the video is on YouTube and on amv.org, where people can watch it, but at least with these places I have a modicum of control. Additionally I feel like engaging with an AMV online that you are watching because you choose to is very different then perhaps watching something that someone is choosing to play for you as background noise at a con. That's not really how I want the way I deal with trauma shown to the world.
Anyway, whatever. I'm over it.
Title: Tomorrow I Remember Yesterday
Anime: NieA Under 7
Song & Artist: Nostalgia - The Chameleons
Date created: 16/12/2021
Following on from "The Stuff (other) Dreams Are Made Of", I found and enjoyed a few other songs by The Chameleons and "Nostalgia" was one I earmarked to edit with. I kind of enjoyed the haphazard results of the way I'd edited "The Stuff (other) Dreams Are Made Of", and I wanted to do this again, but this time I deliberately made it as disjointed as possible while still hopefully being a cohesive AMV. One of the first things I did to achieve this was using an anime I hadn't watched yet, though I really do need to actually watch NieA Under 7 some day. The second thing I did was I clipped the anime in a completely random order - normally I go chronologically by episode, but I wanted to keep any potential knowledge of the anime to a minimum so instead I had random clips to work with.
It was honestly a very freeing editing experience. I had zero idea of context for anything that was happening in the anime, so there was no way any preconceptions of the story could affect my placement of the clips.
While I did set out to edit this in an unusual way, I also didn't necessarily want it to be bad, so it was quite interesting to see how many editing "faux pas" I rack up in this. I guess my desire to see things a certain way overrode any desire to fix things and make them conform to expected AMV norms. I'll list all the ones I've noticed:
I tend not to stick to any rhythm pattern. I change what elements in the music I'm syncing to a lot, and once a pattern starts to become established I switch it up jarringly.
There is deliberate lip sync in this video while there is also lip flap.
I indiscriminately switch between static scenes and scenes with lots of motion. Quite often back and forth without keeping visual harmony.
I repeat clips/scenes
I let scenes play out for a very long time with little editing
Despite these flaws, I feel "Tomorrow I remember yesterday" is one of the purest things I've ever created.
The video itself is loosely about learning to deal with bad memories and how to let go of things from the past. In a way, my editing process and the video were aligned with the ultimate goal of being free from unwelcome thoughts, and that was kind of cool.
Title: A Very Karas Christmas
Anime: Karas
Song & Artist: Christmas at Ground Zero - Weird Al Yankovic
Date created: 24/12/2021
I originally got the idea for this video back when I was editing "Reset the System". Karas has a lot of Christmas imagery and due to the events that happen I felt it would be an obvious fit with "Christmas at Ground Zero". To my immense surprise, no one had made the combo before, so I hung onto the idea all year and finally made it for Christmas.
Title: Meaningless Monogatari Eye Candy
Anime: Monogatari 2nd season
Song & Artist: All That I Can - Alpha 9
Date created: 09/03/2022
Made for the 2022 RICE contest hosted by Bentovid. I'd started making this video as something to edit completely differently to how I normally would. I'd hit a bit of a creative slump and I really wanted to make something with this song so creating a style over substance video was the way I went. I decided to submit it to RICE as this was the only video I thought I had any hope of finishing before the deadline.
Title: When Hearts Asunder

Title: Drugs Are Bad K
Anime: Various
Song & Artist: Zydrate Anatomy - Repo! The Genetic Opera
Date created: 20/05/2022
Made for the RICE 2022 contest hosted by Bentovid. The contest has a theme category every year, and this year the theme was "Musical Theatre". I'd tried for several months to muster up the enthusiasm to edit with some kind of musical soundtrack, but there are very few musicals I enjoy, and even fewer of those felt suitable for an AMV. A couple of days before the submission deadline for RICE I remembered the contest coordinator had mentioned Repo! was their favourite musical, so I looked up the soundtrack and I actually really liked this particular song off of it. Cue 5 hours of editing madness and I managed to submit the first half of this video to the contest. I eventually finished the second half a couple months later.

Title: The Light of The Moon
Anime: Various
Song & Artist: Yin no Piano - Yoko Kanno
Date created: 30/10/2022
I'd been planning this video for a good couple of years before finally creating it. I really love this song from the Darker Than Black soundtrack and I got the inspiration one day and thought it would be lovely to make a video about the moon with it. I spent a while slowly collecting moon clips and a couple days before the deadline for the AWA Accolades contest I decided I probably had enough moon clips and finally made it. Because I'd been thinking about the video for two years I knew exactly how I wanted it pieced together, it was only a matter of getting the clips in the right order. It was a bit touch and go, there were several clips I had saved that I ended up not using due to various reasons (mainly when there was a person in the frame I couldn't easily get rid of).
I am now haunted by moon clips. Whenever I watch AMV's these days, I inevitably notice every single shot of the moon that I didn't use in my own video and I'm stuck thinking "oh why didn't I check this anime!?"

Made for the 2023 RICE contest hosted by Bentovid. The theme for the contest this year was "Trips and Skips". I'd been slowly making a video which I wanted to submit to the contest, but that didn't happen in the end, so a couple days before the deadline I threw this cute thing together to go all in on the "skips" aspect.
I only knew of skipping scenes from two of these sources before making this video and let me tell you, if you ever want to find very specific anime clips - google image search and reverse image search sites are your friend!
