This is not an ordinary post. Indeed I was hoping by this point in time I'd be more into the swing of AMV's released in 2023 and would be posting things about them instead. However, I've found myself being very sluggish a the beginning of this year, and a bit tired of constantly being on where AMV's are concerned. I will be getting back into things soon, but until then I felt the urge to put this together.

In this post I will be listing and writing a little about every single AMV I have ever made. I do not expect anyone else to read this, in fact I hope it eventually gets buried and becomes a thing just for me to add to whenever I make a new video so that I have a list of these and my thoughts all in one place.

Why am I doing this? Well, I don't know for sure how I come across to other people, but I tend to be a cagey and obtuse person. I hardly ever give any information of substance about anything I do ever. Yes, I write YouTube descriptions for my videos. Sometimes they are sufficient, the majority of the time however, I actively go out of my way to write as little as possible. I've always been of the mindset that I make videos, why would I need to write anything about it when the video itself should be showing what it is? For the most part, this is fine, a lot of the videos I make are not complicated, they are what they say on the tin as it were. For the more personal videos I've made, I also thought this was fine as I don't care too much whether people actually understand any meaning behind the video, as people take away different things from art and I don't mind if that doesn't match my own vision. Hypocritically, I really enjoy it when other AMV editors give their own in depth comments about their videos, but this was never really something I considered doing for my own videos. That is until, Caribou-Kun got to me with something he says at the beginning of this AMV:

"I shouldn't need to explain art. I always thought that art should speak for itself, but it's like, it's like when you go to an art museum and actually reading the plaque that's left in the corner for each piece... You learn a lot more, and might see the art differently than you would in a vacuum."

Him putting it that way finally got me to understand a little bit more, and I felt I was doing my work a disservice by not giving the full information.
I'm still not completely in on this. These comments are not going to be added to my YouTube descriptions retrospectively (however I have spent the past couple weeks slowly adding some of them to the video info on amv.org), I felt weird about doing that, so instead I'm going to stockpile them all here, and if anyone out there happens to really want to know something about one of my videos, well it's mostly all here.

I suspect these comments won’t be completely comprehensive, there will no doubt still be missing context in a lot of cases, and also a lot of videos simply won't need much information due to the virtue of just being, well, simple.

Fair warning, this will be long. I have made over 90 videos. I would recommend not reading all of this unless you really want to for some reason. I'll be listing these in chronological order, and where possible, adding a link to them - no embeds though, I’m not doing this to shill my own videos, I just want to link it all up neatly.

Title: Gravitations in the Fire

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Sleep Now in the Fire - Rage Against the Machine

Date created: 18/10/2006

This was the first AMV I ever made. I’d been wanting to create AMV’s for a while, but I didn’t have my own computer nor did I have access to a video editing program. My family had an ancient laptop that no one used because the screen was broken, and I knew it had WMM on it, so for my 16th birthday I asked if I could have it (technically I actually asked for a monitor I could hook up to it so I could use it).

Computer acquired, I got down to trying the whole editing thing out!

I originally made a first draft of this video using clips from other editor's AMV's which I had downloaded, simply because I wasn't sure what I was doing and I didn't want to waste resources acquiring an entire anime if it turned out I couldn't edit. After the first draft was a success, I made a 2nd version using downloaded (fansubbed) episodes.

Title: Engel

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Engel - Rammstein

Date created: 09/02/2007

Ah Engel, the 2nd AMV I ever made.

This was very loosely inspired by Kevin Caldwell's famous Evangelion video. I made this because A: I like the song, and B: I wanted to try out some different editing techniques. I was moderately successful, though these days everything about this is incredibly amateurish, but you can kinda see what I was going for.

Title: Aerials

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Aerials - System of a Down

Date created: 09/02/2007

At this point I start to get a little confused over the exact dates I made things. I'm going off of the dates on my video files but I’m not sure they’re completely accurate as the files from my WMM days have been copied over many, many drives over the years. Supposedly this video was made the same day as “Engel”.

I've lost track of why I made this. I can only assume I liked the song. It’s one of my least favourite videos from my WMM days. Unfortunately it's one of the few that's still available to watch on YouTube. Why YouTube had to remove several of my videos I actually like verses leaving ones like this up is very annoying. Ah well, what can you do?

Title: Time Goes By

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Hung Up - Madonna

Date created: 15/02/2007

This was the very first video I made that I actually felt proud of, hence why it was one I decided to upload to amv.org way back when. The majority of the AMV's I made during my WMM days were simply slap together the anime and the song because I think they're cool type things. "Time Goes By" was the first time I actually had a plan for how to structure the video and I had a vision in mind for the story. Every single clip was chosen for a reason and ordered in a specific way.

I ended up making two versions of this AMV. The first is still available on the local download at amv.org. It's the usual terrible quality fan subbed mess that I was making around this time. A few years later when I had access to my own DVD footage and a better editing program I remade this video as it's one I really love and I wanted it to be better. For the most part I replaced the clips like for like but in a couple of places I did change it slightly. This version is the one that can be watched on YouTube. I still toy with the idea of possibly remaking it a third time - my DVD ripping skills were not great, and there were still a couple of sub-optimal things as a result which I would like to see fixed one day.

My original amv.org comments on this video are a bit of a trip for me. I was only 16 and barely had any idea how amv.org worked. I found amv.org and YouTube on the exact same day funnily enough. Unfortunately this means I was under a very misguided assumption that interaction on amv.org functioned similarly to YouTube, IE; people would leave comments on videos. I was unaware the majority of interaction happened in the forums. You can practically taste the desperation I had for some kind communication with other editors. I never did get any until around 2019 when I pulled my head out of my ass and actually started talking to people properly.

Title: Scum of the Earth

Anime: Please Save My Earth

Song & Artist: Scum of the Earth - Rob Zombie

Date created: 18/02/2007

My first PSME video!
I wasn't able to acquire full episodes of PSME back in the day, so the footage I used here was a combination of the Music Image Videos, and a couple of other people's AMV's - this is the reason I have not made this video available to view or download anywhere.
I made this because I really love PSME, and I wanted to make something with it. For some reason I thought combining it with Rob Zombie would be a good idea (teenager logic eh?).

Title: Til I Collapse

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Till I Collapse - Eminem

Date created: 20/02/2007

This is another AMV I'm quite proud of where I also made two versions. In this case I made the 2nd version a few months after the 1st as I wanted to improve on the scene selection and snappiness of the editing. So no quality improvements sadly. It's a bit of a silly video with some questionable decisions, but it does still have some cool parts. Interestingly there are moments I prefer from each version, so neither is the ultimate in my eyes.

I'm a bit sad this was one of the videos that YouTube removed, so it's not available to watch anywhere. Despite really enjoying it myself I'm definitely never going to re-upload it in this day and age.

Title: Hardcore

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: One - Scooter

Date created: 26/02/2007

Another loosely inspired AMV - this time it's Nostromo who's unfortunately up on the chopping block. I really love this song and I wanted to do something for it myself. I tried to edit it a bit like "Always Hardcore" but I missed the mark by many, many miles. Ah well, at least I kept trying new things!

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Staring at the Sun - The Offspring

Date created: 28/02/2007

Oh boy, apparently around this time I just kept making AMV's inspired by others. This time I was inspired by a Trigun AMV made by The Great Wang. I also just really liked this song and wanted to edit with it. Not much more to it than that!

Title: Ya’ll Want a Single

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Ya’ll Want a Single - Korn

Date created: 11/03/2007

This was at the time, a very obvious combination for me to make. It was a song about the music industry. The anime gravitation was sort of about the music industry. The result is a bit weird though, and didn't quite work how I originally envisioned.

Title: CRP

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: God Moving Over the Face of the Waters - Moby

Date created: 16/03/2007

CRP = Completely Random People

This is the first slightly out of the box AMV I made. I wanted to try making something where the subject matter was completely unrelated to the characters in the source and instead I focused on all the non de-script background people who are part of the scenery. Unfortunately I didn't really do anything interesting with this idea, the video is literally just random clips loosely synced to the song. If I were to make something like this today I would consider creating some kind of logical flow to it rather than scattering meaningless clips everywhere.

At least I have the dubious honour of being the only person to list an AMV with this song on amv.org.

Title: Anime Rises

Anime: Various

Song & Artist: Rise - Origa

Date created: 16/03/2007

My first multi source video! I honestly can't remember where I got the clips for this. I think it was a mixture of opening credit sequences and other people's AMV's (except for Gravitation which I had the episodes of). I don't really remember why I made this other than I really liked the song. Unfortunately this mess of a video is still available on YouTube.

Title: Rise

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Rise - Origa

Date created: 25/03/2007

I liked this song so much that I made not one but two AMV's with it! This time I used just gravitation and I mainly focused on trying out some internal sync as well as seeing how long I could let clips run on for while still keeping up sync/momentum. I vastly prefer this one to the other video I made with "rise" but sadly this one got removed from YouTube.

Title: Word Up!

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Word Up - Korn

Date created: 30/03/2007

This is probably one of my faves from my WMM days. I made this purely for fun and watching this makes me very happy so I think I achieved what I set out to do. I have been working on a remaster of this because I enjoy it so much. Not sure I'll ever release it though.

Title: How You Remind Me

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: How You Remind Me - Nickelback

Date created: 10/04/2007

This is probably my best edited video from my WMM days. The scene selection and pacing is pretty on point even for my standards today. This is another where I made two versions of it in quick succession, though there ended up not being much difference between them.

Not available to watch as it was removed from YouTube.

Title: Crawling

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: KRWLNG - Linkin Park

Date created: 25/05/2007

I made this simply because I liked this version of the song. Some parts of the video work extremely well and some parts are a bit of a dumpster fire. Ultimately Gravitation was not the best anime choice for the song, but I didn't have much to work with at the time.

Title: Mobscene

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Mobscene - Marilyn Manson

Date created: 21/06/2007

Definitely one of the better videos I made with WMM. By this point in time I was fairly proficient with WMM as well as overly familiar with the anime so I was actually starting to make decently(ish) edited things. I made this as a way to focus on some of the darker undertones of the anime.

Title: If Everyone Cared

Anime: Tokyo Babylon, X/1999, X (TV)

Song & Artist: If Everyone Cared - Nickelback

Date created: 09/07/2007

I made this out of spite. I hated the lyrics of this song and I thought it would be ironic to make a Seishirou X Subaru video with it.

It's not available to watch anywhere because A it's bad, and B I used other people's AMV's as footage.

Title: How I Wish For Soothing Rain

Anime: Trigun

Song & Artist: Nemo - Nightwish

Date created: 10/08/2007

I adore this video. So much so that this is another I remade when I had a better editing program and footage. It definitely has its faults, which at the time I couldn't really see past, but looking back at it today I feel it's fairly on par with what other people were making at this point in time.

This is also the first video I made using full episodes of something other than Gravitation. Up until this point the reason I was editing solely with Gravitation (or cutting up other peoples AMV's) was due to how old of a computer I had. I only had enough space on it for one anime series at the time. I got so sick of being limited that I ended up deleting Gravitation so I had room to download some episodes of Trigun instead.

The remake version is the only one available to watch. There isn't too much difference between them, other than I completely changed the guitar solo - originally I synced this with Midvalley the Horn Freak, but that ended up feeling way too silly for that point in the song.

Title: Evolution

Anime: Yami no Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness)

Song & Artist: Evolution - Korn

Date created: 29/09/2007

Oh hey, it's baby's first NLE video. I finally found an editing program that would run on my ancient laptop that wasn't WMM. It also happened to be a non linear editing program which blew my little editing mind at the time. It was quite a landmark video for me. There's a lot wrong with it, and I couldn't sync a lot of my cuts correctly, but I still enjoy it in a cheesy sort of way.

There's not really much thought behind the video other than I really enjoyed this song at the time and I thought it fit the anime.

To make this, I had to delete Trigun off of my computer in order to have enough space for Descendants of Darkness.

This was another attempt at a Ryuichi Character profile. I'm back to Gravitation at this point, having re-downloaded it after deleting Descendants of Darkness (man that anime shuffle got tiring after a while).

It's one of my least favourite AMV's I've ever made. I doubt it will ever be unleashed into the world.

Title: The Question Is What is Enduring Love?

Anime Film: Enduring Love

Song & Artist: The Question Is What Is The Question - Scooter

Date created: 01/04/2008

I’m listing every single video I’ve ever made, and that includes this complete lapse of sanity. To date, this is the only solely live action video I’ve ever edited. I doubt I will ever make more.
This was the result of staying up late one night and watching this film on TV. I’d also recently been obsessed with this song, and unfortunately these two things collided in my brain and I had to make this.

I’m unsure where exactly I got the footage for this film, wherever it was the quality is atrocious and looks like it’s running at around 15 fps.

I also went crazy with utilising the shiny things that my NLE program could do, so there are many excessive editing effects here like, backwards lens flares, black and white, freeze frames, and all sorts of other avant garde goodness that I was compelled to include.

This video had possibly the worst audience reception on YouTube I’ve ever had. I can’t say I blame them, it’s a weird video, I think only my brain is wired to enjoy it. This was not helped by the fact I apparently uploaded it on April fools day. Whoops.

Title: Fight!

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Fight Song - Marilyn Manson

Date created: 13/05/2008

This was my first serious attempt at lip syncing in an AMV. This is also another video I made twice, however the 2nd video is what's listed on amv.org and uploaded on YouTube. My 1st attempt at this video was back when I was using WMM, but I never released the original on YouTube or anywhere else due to how terrible I thought it was. I only released the remake, therefore, that's the version I entered the listing for.

This video is not the worst thing I've ever made, and it does have some charm. Most of the lip sync in it is simply happenstance rather than any proper editing.

Title: This is Entertainment

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: Don’t Stop - Innerpartysystem

Date created: 12/09/2008

We're entering my more experimental phase here. I wanted to figure out what I could do in the shiny new world of NLE, so I went a bit nuts with it. I also threw in some manga panels just because I could. Ultimately this video combo was a terrible idea, it only really served as a way for me to figure out more interesting editing things. I'm a bit embarrassed that this is still watchable on YouTube, but oh well.

Title: Leave Out All The Rest

Anime: Serial Experiments Lain

Song & Artist: Leave Out All The Rest - Linkin Park

Date created: 01/10/2008

This is another milestone video for me. I finally got a new laptop so I no longer had space issues for footage. To celebrate I ripped my Lain DVD's in order to make this. I ran into another issue though, my shiny NLE editor that I had just started getting used to wouldn't work properly on my new computer - it was weird, it started out working fine but slowly stopped working over the course of making this AMV. I had to cut my losses so I rendered out what I had of the video and found a new editing program to use. You can definitely tell when the switch happens, the editing style and flow changes slightly.

My feelings on this video are quite mixed. On the one hand, I really enjoy this particular combination and like the idea and some of what I've made here. On the other hand, due to my wrestling with editing programs, the editing in this is quite poor in places and the storytelling a bit weak. I doubt I will ever re-upload this. I might remake it at some point though.

Anime: Various

Song & Artist: Let it Rock - Kevin Rudolf ft Lil Wayne

Date created: 13/02/2009

Armed with a new laptop, I went on a spree of ripping all the anime DVDs I had and this is what I did with the footage. I was not good at ripping DVDs so the footage is fairly bad quality and in the case of Lain, interlaced to hell.

I enjoyed this song so I made something fun and a bit silly. I didn't know how to cope with different aspect ratios at this point though. Ugh, and I also added some text and unnecessary effects because apparently I could.

Title: Flux

Anime: Please Save My Earth

Song & Artist: Flux - Bloc Party

Date created: 19/02/2009

This video marks a key point in my editing history. Up until now the majority of my videos have ranged from downright terrible to something I'll watch occasionally, and only a couple outliers that I really love. "Flux" marks the point where I truly start to enjoy each and every video from here onward.

Ever since my first PSME editing attempt, I'd been wanting to try and make something else with it but hadn't found the right inspiration. I heard this song and thought it would be a perfect fit. I didn't have DVDs for PSME at this time, and I couldn't easily find it online, so the footage here is actually ripped from episodes I got off of YouTube. Surprisingly, it's not completely terrible quality.

I really love this video. I went a bit crazy on the cross fades, but apart from that I feel it's a solid video.

I initially forgot to upload this to YouTube, so that's why the upload date is in 2016 and not 2009.

Title: Akumetsu

Anime Manga: Akumetsu

Song & Artist: Remedy - Seether

Date created: 16/06/2009

In the late 2000's early 2010's, I got into reading manga online in a big way. Akumetsu just so happened to be a manga I enjoyed which also didn't seem like it would ever get an anime adaptation - so I thought it would be cool to try out making an MMV for it. Boy was I not prepared for the amount of effort that entailed. I only use crops/pans/zooms and flashes in this, but it still took me the better part of a year to put together. Akumetsu was in the process of being scanlated/translated while I was making this, and making this put me off the manga so much that I never did finish reading it.

I still really enjoy watching this one even though the whole vibe screams edgy.

Fun fact - I never did figure out how to properly create flashes/adjust brightness in Magix, so every time you see a flash to white (which is often) it's just a plain white jpeg I've put on the timeline for a couple of frames.

Title: Flambouyant

Anime Manga: From Eroica With Love

Song & Artist: Flamboyant - Pet Shop Boys

Date created: 12/10/2009

Because I apparently didn't suffer enough, I decided to make a 2nd MMV immediately after my 1st. From Eroica With Love was another manga I enjoyed which is never going to get an anime adaptation so I felt like making an MMV. This time it didn't take me nearly as long to make as "Akumetsu" did, even though I had the bright idea of cleaning up the manga panels and replacing some of the text with song lyrics... Yeah, I did that in MS Paint. It also didn't work out quite how I envisioned as I didn't take into account how quickly I would be transitioning between images, so sometimes it's hard to read.

From Eroica With Love is a much older manga than Akumetsu, which means I had the advantage of having read the whole thing before I started making this. The disadvantage of it being so old was that at the time, the scanlations were all over the place and had been done by a few different groups, meaning image quality varied.

There's a sequence in this video which is still one of my favourite things I've ever edited - between 01:11 - 01:57.

I made this because I love the song a lot and the lyrics work absolutely perfectly with the character of Dorian.

Annoyingly I misspelt the title and never noticed until several years later. I'm so used to having to remember to add superfluous "U's" to words that I didn't realise "flamboyant" is not one of those words.

Another mixed anime AMV made just for funsies. I noticed a trend of making dance AMVs so I decided I should make one too. I did a few silly editing things and cliches in this.

Title: Die Tonight

Anime: Death Note

Song & Artist: Die Tonight Live Forever - Innerpartysystem

Date created: 20/09/2010

This was my "I wanna be like the cool editors" AMV. I definitely took inspiration from a handful of other Death Note AMV's that were popular at the time. I bit off more than I could chew with some of the effects work and I didn't really know what I was doing or where I was ultimately going with this. Some of it turned out quite cool though. Looking back I'm really not sure why I tried so hard with the effects work, I don't often enjoy effects heavy videos and making them myself just feels awkward. It's no surprise really that the part of the video I enjoy the most is the least edited section.

Anime: Darker Than Black

Song & Artist: Dynamite - Taio Cruz

Date created: 10/11/2010

My first foray into Darker Than Black! I was obsessed with this song and had recently watched Darker Than Black so I combined them. I tried a "going back and forth between clips" editing style here to mixed success. Overall I still really enjoy watching this video.

I used my own DVD clips for this for the 1st season - Gemini of the Meteor was downloaded. Most of the time it's fine, but for some reason there are a couple of clips which have very bad interlacing.

Title: Carry Out

Anime: Ouran High School Host Club

Song & Artist: Carry Out (Soundpusher & DJ Rock City Remix) - Timbaland ft Justin Timberlake

Date created: 06/06/2011

This video was directly inspired by an Evangelion AMV made by alldembigjunglecats which uses this same song. I was mesmerised by some of the editing decisions in it and I wanted to try my hand at something similar - namely, how long could I successfully sync a video for with as little editing as possible?

Ultimately "carry out" is still highly edited, but in a minimalist way. There are portions of the video which are tightly edited and other portions which are more loosely synced and I let scenes play out without actually cutting (not that you might notice without being super familiar with the source). It was experimenting with this balance and seeing what would work which helped pave the way for what I feel is my more current style of editing AMV's.

This video also marks another milestone for me as I transitioned into what would become my ultimate editing program for the foreseeable future. I had Vista on my laptop and one day it decided to completely stop working (as Vista tended to do), so I wiped my computer and installed Ubuntu. At the time the only decent editing programs available for Linux were Cinelerra or Kdenlive - and you have to perform some kind of dark magic to get Cinelerra to do anything so I went with Kdenlive.

Sadly I no longer have the original file for this video. The version I have is a file I downloaded from my own YouTube upload. I'm not 100% sure how I lost it.

Title: Dance Shuichi Dance!

Anime: Gravitation

Song & Artist: You're Gonna Go Far Kid - The Offspring

Date created: 05/09/2011

I made this because at the time I couldn't find any AMV's with this song that I enjoyed, and I also wanted a brain break from a more complicated video I was making at the time (which never came to fruition). I also absolutely did not care about the quality of the output, I only cared if I enjoyed it or not, so there are a handful of orphan frames. This was also a brief return to Gravitation, as it was the anime I was most familiar with and I wanted to edit something to completion as quickly as possible. I edited this over three days.
