AMV Roundup - Father's Day Special
Jun. 18th, 2023 11:02 amWith Father’s Day this month, I had the idea that it might be a fun challenge to try and find a selection of AMV’s that focus on anime Dads and assorted Father figures. While I have come across a few AMV’s about Mothers before - anime in general tends to be lacking in parental units, so AMV’s of this nature are not very common.
It was interesting trying to think of what anime might get me the best results for AMV’s about Dads, as there were only a handful off the top of my head which I knew for sure had involved father figures. I did manage to find a fair amount of cool videos, some of which are even from familiar faces!
I hope you enjoy the following AMV’s where we go through different anime Father figures, from the good, the bad, and the unhinged (honestly, they’re mostly good), in no particular order.
And to any Dad’s out there - I wish you all a very Happy Father’s Day!
Video title: Papaoutai
Editor: Roger LovesAnime
Anime: Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
Song & Artist: Papaoutai - Stromae
Comments: When I started looking for videos for this list, “Papaoutai” was the only one I had in mind already as definitely an AMV about a Dad. I came across this a while back when I was searching for AMV’s using this song, and it’s become one of my favourite Fullmetal Alchemist AMV’s (dubious audio cuts aside).
VPR: All
CW: Violence/Gore
Video title: Calamity
Editor: AMV Cenit
Anime: Tokyo Godfathers
Song & Artist: Take the Long Way Home - Supertramp
Comments: I know, I know, only one of the characters here could officially be described as a Dad, however technically they’re all Godfathers sooo, I’m lumping them in as Father figures.
I probably could have chosen any Tokyo Godfathers AMV as the majority of them focus on the main story of the movie - I chose “Calamity” to represent in this list mainly because I’m rather fond of it as I don’t often get to see Supertramp AMV’s.
VPR: Fades to black, minor motion
Video title: Human
Editor: Nekokitkat
Anime: The Boy and the Beast
Song & Artist: Human - Of Monsters And Men
Comments: Another Father figure here - which honestly I’m not even 100% sure about as I haven’t actually seen this movie, but the older beast character definitely gives off Dad vibes to me, so here we are. Again, this is one where I could have possibly chosen from several AMV’s using this anime - I chose “Human” for this list due to me adoring Nekokitkat’s videos, as well as the way she illustrates the relationship between the characters in this AMV.
VPR: Motion, fades to black, flickering, flashes to white, quick cuts
Video title: He Lies
Editor: Shorisquared
Anime: Usagi Drop
Song & Artist: My dad's story: Dream for My Child - MetLife Hong Kong
Comments: Usagi Drop was an obvious anime to search for a good Dad AMV, and oooh boy was I not ready for “He Lies”. Apparently Shorisquared decided to utterly devastate everyone’s hearts back in 2015/2016, which I somehow missed entirely at the time.
VPR: Fades to black, fades to white
Video title: Daddy
Editor: Hero joga
Anime: Boruto
Song & Artist: Daddy - PSY
Comments: Naruto is another obvious anime to try and find Dad AMV’s for considering we now have three generations to explore - Minato, Naruto and Boruto. Surely there should be several AMV’s that focus on some form of paternal bond between these three somewhere - have you ever tried to wade through the monstrous amount of Naruto content on YouTube? Well, I hadn’t before, and wow, it’s quite intimidating. There were in fact many videos which focused on various configurations of Minato/Naruto/Boruto, but to put it in a polite way, none of them sparked joy with me. So I had actually given up with Naruto and was now searching for any AMV’s which might use this particular song (the majority of which simply focus on hot anime guys), when I found this - and finally there was joy. Yes, I will admit this is not the most polished video I could have chosen, but it is incredibly endearing and a lovely lighthearted addition to this list.
VPR: Peripheral + Red in the beginning six seconds of the video, flashes to white, red/orange/fire emphasis scenes, flickering
Video title: Father of Mine
Editor: Brad DeMoss
Anime: Neon Genesis Evangelion
Song & Artist: Father of Mine - Everclear
Comments: No list of AMV’s about anime Dads could be complete without Gendo. There are a lot of AMV’s about him, however it took me a while to find one which I feel adequately focuses on him from the aspect of being Shinji’s Father. My search finally led me to what is the oldest AMV in this list by far - Evangelion Daddy issues videos are truly timeless.

CW: Violence/Gore
Video title: When God Made You My Father
Editor: ImmediatelyWriting - NOA
Anime: Spy X Family
Song & Artist: When God made you my father - Riley Roth
Comments: In my search for any suitable Spy X Family AMV’s, this was the very first video I came across, and I instantly stopped there. “When God Made You My Father” is quite possibly the sweetest video I’ve ever seen, it’s almost too much honestly, but it’s just so gosh darn earnest that I can’t help but love it.
VPR: Red/explosions, peripherals
Video title: My Father Told Me
Editor: HiddenWhiteFang
Anime: Naruto/Boruto
Song & Artist: The Nights - Avicii
Comments: Of course when I’m no longer searching for Naruto anymore, a wild HiddenWhiteFang appears! I should have just gone to HiddenWhiteFang’s channel in the first place - they’ve made like, every type of Naruto AMV you could ever want.
Even though I already have a Naruto Entry on this list I couldn’t help but include this one as well, as "My Father Told Me" focuses on many of the different Fathers in the anime and it’s really lovely to watch.
VPR: Flashes to white, Flashes to Black, Red, Peripherals, Motion
Video title: Humid Press of Days
Editor: fortwas
Anime: Dr. Stone
Song & Artist: Humid Press of Days - Camper Van Beethoven
Comments: I was pleasantly surprised that a number of people had made AMV’s about the relationship between Senku and his Father in Dr. Stone. I chose this one as despite me having a hard time enjoying this song, it’s a really well made video with a lot of heart.
VPR: Fire, flickering, peripherals
Video title: Don’t Leaf
Editor: TheLazyDaze
Anime: The Tree
Song & Artist: Everything Stays - Olivia Olson
Comments: We’re going to finish this list with this heart wrenching entry which I remembered from TheLazyDaze. Possibly not what you might typically think of when looking for a Dad video, but I feel it’s one of the most pure. Also, it’s not really an anime, but whatever, idc.
VPR: Fades to black
